The “Spotlight On…” series gives members a platform to draw attention to good causes and opportunities to get involved in our community.
The Victoria Repair Café, was established in March 2019 as part of a drive to live a simpler life, be in solidarity with people in poverty and to protect our planet. We hold a Café four times a year on Saturday mornings in the Church of the Holy Spirit social centre, Victoria Road, West Bridgford.
Repair Cafés are places where people can bring their broken items to be fixed on the spot with the help of volunteer repairers. This teaches people to see their possessions in a new light and appreciate their value. Repair Cafés help to change people’s mindset, and this is essential to kindle their enthusiasm for a sustainable society. They also develop a community focus to actively work together to Reduce/Reuse/Recycle and help to mitigate environment damage.
Our Repair Cafés success is built on volunteers who have skills in repairing/admin/baking/ advertising and like to meet and greet people.
We do not charge for repairing items or tea, coffee, cakes and listening, we just ask for donations so that we can replace equipment. Local companies also donate money/resources to support the project and we are not charged for room higher.
Any surplus money is given to charities in need of help.
