Community Organising: A Vision or Dream for West Bridgford?

West Bridgford Branch Political Education Event Online Meeting
Monday 28 February *7.30pm* via Zoom

-Ian Crompton, West Bridgford and Rushcliffe CLP Political Education Officer.

A Community Organising Approach – could it be realised in WB?

There is much discussion in the Labour Party and beyond about the need to do our politics differently, ‘a politics of the people rather than for the people’ – where new collective expressions of political engagement and communities of solidarity emerge, from mutual aid groups to community-owned football teams responding to, and meeting, local need.

We thought it was time to revisit these themes in advance of the West Bridgford Branch AGM.

To kick off the conversation on the evening, I am really pleased to confirm two Labour Party members and activists from Broxtowe Labour will open the conversation. They will outline the numerous community-organising initiatives that Broxtowe Labour have recently been involved in, including:

• Phoenix FC – “The tiny youth football club with a lesson for how Labour can help people right now
• Food and Nappy Bank – High Street Community Hub
• Community Bus Company

Tyler Marsh, Broxtowe Community Organiser, & Jane Marshall, Broxtowe CLP Chair, will open the discussion – and the emphasis will be on an open inclusive conversation with shared learning.

The Zoom joining link for the event will be sent via email to all West Bridgford Labour Party Members in the week leading up to the meeting.
