Last year showed that we can’t expect companies to cope with organizing social care on their own. We all know of carers who have to drive backwards and forwards across the county because of a lack of organization. This fragmentation is very wasteful- waste that we can’t afford when budgets have been decimated by central government cuts. There should be a national discussion on how to deliver social care.
I think we need locally accountable coordination and oversight of care, with with national cost sharing and oversight of standards. We need central government to sort out funding but we cannot wait for them to come up with a plan. We need to start to organize this locally now.
